Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and its incidence is gradually rising in Myanmar as well.
The main causes that can increase the risk of heart disease include:
- High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
Elevated blood pressure forces the heart and blood vessels to work harder, which can lead to damage. - High Cholesterol Levels
Excess bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood can build up fatty deposits in the blood vessel walls, narrowing them. - Diabetes
High blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels. - Smoking
Smoking narrows blood vessels and increases the risk of blood clots. - Obesity and Lack of Physical Activity
Excess body weight and inactivity raise the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. - Stress
Stress can increase heart rate and blood pressure. - Age and Family History
Older age and a family history of heart disease increase the risk.
