The Myanmar Diabetes Association (MMDA) and the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (MSEM) jointly organized a “Public Health Education Seminar” at Victoria Hospital on 16 August 2026.

In today’s society, diabetes has become an increasingly important public health concern as a chronic disease that can affect people of all ages. Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to serious complications, including cardiovascular diseases, kidney disease, impaired vision, nerve damage, and foot-related problems. Therefore, prevention before the onset of the disease, early detection, and effective treatment and management are of utmost importance.

Managing diabetes cannot be achieved through medication alone. It is equally important for patients themselves, as well as their caregivers, to have a proper understanding of essential health information related to diabetes. With this in mind, the Myanmar Diabetes Association (MMDA) and the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (MSEM) have jointly planned to organize public health education seminars every two months under the theme “Control Diabetes with Knowledge.” The seminar held today at Victoria Hospital marked the first of these educational sessions.

During the event, Professor Daw Moe Wint Aung, President of the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, delivered the welcome remarks. This was followed by the opening speech given by Professor U Tin Swe Lat, Patron of both the Myanmar Diabetes Association and the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Professor Dr. Thein Myint, General Secretary of the Myanmar Diabetes Association and Vice President of the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, delivered a talk entitled “What is Diabetes? Types of Diabetes and Its Causes.”

Following this, Associate Professor Dr. Cho Mar from the Department of Endocrinology, University of Medicine 1, Yangon, gave a presentation on “Symptoms of Diabetes, Diagnosis, and Treatment Goals.”

At the conclusion of the event, Professor Dr. Thein Myint, Vice President of the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism and General Secretary of the Myanmar Diabetes Association, delivered the closing remarks and expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the seminar.

As part of Victoria Hospital’s ongoing community service initiatives, this Diabetes Awareness Public Health Education Seminar was organized with the aim of promoting health awareness and knowledge among the general public.

Victoria Hospital is proud to share these memorable moments from the seminar and would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the distinguished professors and doctors who generously shared their knowledge, the Central Executive Committee members of the respective organizations, all guests and participants who attended with great interest, and all sponsors who contributed their valuable support toward the successful organization of this meaningful event.
