About HVC

Heart and Vascular Centre (HVC) at Victoria Hospital has been established since May 2017 with the aim of bringing high value health care to Myanmar. To provide the best health care services in Myanmar, HVC is carefully structured and constantly modified with technologically advanced equipment, an advanced IT system, quality medical products, and qualified professionals. Heart and Vascular Centre has been planning to add more specialized services and facilities to fulfill the gap of the healthcare requirements of the public in Myanmar.

The strength of Heart and Vascular Centre (HVC) lies in its ability to tackle complex Coronary Angioplasty procedures. In these years of its existence more than 1000 patients underwent Angioplasty, including extremely complex subsets of left main, bifurcation lesions, acute MI Primary Angioplasty complicated by Cardiogenic Shock, Complex High Risk Indicated Patient Procedures (CHIP) complicated by renal failure, densely calcified vessels deemed unsuitable for bypass surgery, etc. Many of the angioplasty procedures have been performed as an emergency. We aim for a quick First Medical Contact (FMC) to wire crossing, ideally within 90 minutes.

In addition to coronary angiography and angioplasty, HVC has a structural heart disease program, wherein we focus on device closure for congenital heart diseases. This is a unique facility at Myanmar and patients don’t need to travel abroad to avail such therapies. Also, vascular diseases can be managed at Heart and Vascular Centre, which is not routinely being addressed in Myanmar. Patients who have Diabetes and consequent Peripheral Vascular Disease may suffer non-healing diabetic foot ulcers. At HVC, we’ve taken the up the task of helping these patients by performing Angioplasty and Stent procedures.
And we have introduced non-surgical therapies for varicose veins using laser energy -radiofrequency energy and non-tumescent, non-thermal, non-sclerosant – venaseal for the first time in Myanmar. These painless and minimally invasive procedures are performed as day care procedures with high success rates exceeding 98%, with long lasting results.

Vision OF HVC

  • To be the national leader in providing safe, trusted, compassionate, patient centered and a wide range of quality cardiovascular care in Myanmar.

Mission Of HVC

  • To promote the cardiovascular health and well-being of the local population by providing accessible, high-quality cardiology care for the people of all ages.
  • To provide services that will exceed the expectations of our patients and to result successful outcomes.

Motto OF HVC

  • Healthy Heart for Life

Services

1. 24-Hour Services

Our Heart & Vascular Centre provides 24-hour care to those who have just suffered heart and vascular emergencies by performing life-saving emergency treatment. The main procedure conducted by the centre is Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, a non-invasive procedure and it utilizes catheterization to open narrowed or blocked arteries to allow blood flow to the heart. The other 24-hour services are emergency coronary angiogram and pacemaker implantation.

2. Day Care Services

Heart & Vascular Centre offers a full range of advanced heart and vascular care – preventive, diagnostic, non-surgical procedures and rehabilitation. The centre offers
  • Out-Patient Service for Consultation by resident cardiologist, visiting cardiologists from India and local cardiologists
  • Echocardiogram Service
  • Exercise Stress Test
  • Elective Coronary angiogram and Elective Coronary Angioplasty
  • Peripheral Angiogram and Angioplasty
  • Device closure for congenital heart diseases (ASD, VSD, PDA)
  • Percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty
  • Various treatments for vascular diseases such as revascularization for diabetic foot ulcer
  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA / Venaseal) for varicose veins
  • Carotid stenting
  • Thrombolysis for deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

3. Cardiac Investigation Services

  • 12 Lead ECG (Electrocardiogram)
  • Ambulatory ECG Monitoring (Holter)
  • Echocardiogram

Types of Echocardiogram

There are several different types of echocardiogram.

  • Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE)
  • Trans-esophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
  • Stress echocardiogram
  • Doppler echocardiogram
  • Doppler Ultrasound
  • Exercise Stress Test

Facilities

1. Cardiac OPD

Heart and Vascular Centre offers a one-stop outpatient cardiovascular counselling service by very experienced cardiovascular physicians and surgeons. And when the patients are consulted by foreign specialists, local medical officers support interpretation of medical language to be more convenient for patients.

2. Catheterization Laboratory

To ensure an excellent patient management, cardiologists use superb image quality at a low X-ray dose, instant access to multi-modality information, as well as advanced and easy-to-use image processing tools. Heart and Vascular Centre’s Catheterization Laboratory is equipped with Philips FD 10 Clarity which is a complete cardiovascular imaging system designed for a variety of interventional cardiology procedures. Philips FD 10 Clarity produces high-contrast images with low noise, making it an ideal system for challenging cardiac fluoroscopy, vascular fluoroscopy, and trace subtract fluoroscopy procedures. Its dedicated procedure settings can reduce x-ray dose for staff and patients significantly. And each user customize system functions to match their workflow and procedures. This reduces manual tasks and enhances efficiency. As an alternative to acquiring multiple stationary views, Philips FD 10 Clarity generates high-resolution 3D images from a single rotation angiography run. And it offers enhanced visualization of the anatomical vessel structure, helping to clarify the complex spatial relationship between the critical and branching vessels. With the StentBoost Subtract feature which is a simple, quick, and cost-effective tool to enhance stent visualization in the coronary arteries, you can even see the stent in relation to the vessel wall as you are working. So, we can deliver better care, to more people, at lower cost. Together, we can create a healthier future.

Physicians at Heart and Vascular Centre’s Catheterization Laboratory take a collaborative approach in dealing with complex cases, so that the results are the best and most consistent across the group. The Cath Lab at HVC functions 24/7, 365 days, and the nursing and technical staff in the Cath Lab are well trained to assist the doctors in performing the procedures with very high success rates comparable to the best institutes in the world. And our centre possessed the First Medical Contact (FMC) to wire crossing time record of within 90 minutes which is achieved with our in-house interventional cardiologist.

3. Cardiac Care Unit

Care for the critically ill cardiovascular patients and their families requires a unique environment that is structurally different from other clinical units. The integral care of Cardiac Care Unit is prevention and Care for the critically ill cardiovascular patients and their families requires a unique environment that is prompt treatment of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias related to acute myocardial infarction.

With an installed bed capacity of 8 beds, the Cardiac Care Unit at Heart and Vascular Centre – Victoria Hospital is modern and well equipped. Each bed is geared for both non-invasive and invasive monitoring of hemodynamics, and provides a detailed update of the patient condition to a central monitor. With the ability to remote monitor the patient, Clinicians can provide round the clock services.

The Intensive Cardiac Care Unit has equipment to measure Cardiac output, and also to support the patients in case of shock, with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump from Data scope.

Specialty care refers to medical services provided by physicians and other healthcare professionals who have advanced training and expertise in specific areas of medicine. Unlike primary care, which addresses general health maintenance and common medical conditions, specialty care focuses on diagnosing, managing, and treating complex or specific health issues.
