Early detection of breast cancer is the most important factor for successful treatment. That’s why it’s essential to know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and to perform regular self-checks.

Common Signs of Breast Cancer:
📌 A lump in the breast or underarm
📌 Swelling of all or part of the breast
📌 Redness, dimpling, or puckering of the breast skin
📌 Changes in the nipple’s appearance, such as inversion or pain
📌 Discharge from the nipple (which may contain blood)
📌 Noticeable changes in the size or shape of the breast

How to Perform a Self-Breast Exam
The best time to do a self-exam is 3–5 days after your period ends.

Step 1 – Visual Check in the Mirror
Stand straight in front of a mirror and look for any changes in size, shape, skin texture, or nipple appearance.

Step 2 – Check While Showering
Using the pads of your three middle fingers, gently press and feel the entire breast in a circular motion. Cover all areas, including under the breast and the underarm.

Step 3 – Check While Lying Down
Place a pillow or folded towel under one shoulder. Using the same circular motion with your fingers, check each breast thoroughly.

If you find a lump or notice any unusual change, see a doctor immediately.

At Victoria Hospital’s Wellness Center, women can also have professional breast screening with our Well-Women Program packages (Breast Screening Package I & II) to ensure early detection and peace of mind.
